Mexican Growkit (Psilocybe Cubensis)

Mexicana, also known as psilocybe mexicana, is a type of psilocybin magic mushroom known for its use by Aztec peoples over two thousand years ago, where it was called 'nahuatl' or 'god mushroom'. It is one of the most well-known types of psychedelic mushrooms in the world. Mexicana was used in religious ceremonies as a way to ascend to enlightenment. This strain is a genus of psilocybe cubensis. This set is particularly fascinating to look at under a microscope.

Mexican has been used by indigenous peoples in North and Central America for several thousand years. It was discovered by French botanist Roger Heim and experimented with by researcher Albert Hofmann, where it was first isolated. Mexican is one of the first ever hallucinogenic mushrooms to be studied by scientists. Mexican is able to grow virtually anywhere in America, as long as the climate is temperate.

Growth characteristics: This variety boasts large brown-gold caps. The stems of this mushroom are light beige or white in colour and are very thin and long. Mexicana stems also tend to bruise easily and form a light blue-grey colour. At maturity, Mexicana hats can become quite large and spreading. This variety can also produce 'magic truffles', or sclerotia, which are an absolute delight to look at under a microscope. Mexican is also known for being slow growing.

Growkit Cambodian can be stored in the fridge for approximately 4 months. However, it has a limited shelf life outside the fridge.

Characteristics

Cap: 1. 5-8 (10) cm wide, broadly conical or oval or bell-shaped when young, gradually expanding to convex, broadly umbonate or flat; surface smooth or with small whitish remnants of veil when young, sticky when moist, soon dries, colour variable: whitish with brown to yellowish centre, or entirely yellow to yellowish brown, or sometimes cinnamon-brown when young, and sometimes dull olive in old age; bluish blue and ageing; margin sometimes fringed with veil remnants. Flesh firm, white, discolouring blue or blue-green when bruised.

Spore print: dark purple-brown to black; spores 11-17x7-12 microns, elliptical, smooth, thick-walled, with a large apical germ pore. Cystidia present on gill surfaces, but chrysocystidia absent.

Blueness: blue or blue-green

Blades: adherent to adherent or separating to free

Stem: 4-15 cm long, 0.4-1-5 cm thick, even or more often thicker below, dry, white or sometimes yellowish to yellowish brown, aging or bluish blue or bluish green; smooth.

Veil: membranous, white or bluishly coloured, usually forming a thin, brittle, superior ring on the shaft, which blackens from falling spores.

Mycelium: strongly rhizomorphic, white

Temperature: 24-27 ºC
